A pawn may stand alone
but can it find comfort
in being left out of the crowd
being sacrificed for a king
that doesn’t care about them
a pawn may sit forgotten
in a checkered corner
but can it be thankful
that it isn’t being used to attack
other pieces that have done it no harm
a pawn may travel alone
a humble stranger in a stranger land
worth nothing to the royalty
power playing with all the pieces
they look down on
but at the other end of the board
the final destination
will the tiny pawn find any satisfaction
in receiving the crown
that will change the game
